What were they thinking? ...
What national organization plans to hold its annual conference in a location that can only be reached by a four-hour bus trip? Um... that would be the one I'm a member of. Apparently, the only way to get to Idaho Falls, Idaho, this year is to fly into Salt Lake City, Utah, and take a bus the rest of the way. Honestly, it was an easier journey the year they held it in Alaska. At least you could get there from here.

I don't know if this is out of date:

Did Skywest, the Delta partner stop flying there? Salt Lake is horrible for getting here to there because it's basically Delta, Delta or Delta, which is axing domestic service in favor of International flights. Our local officials axed our alternative service to Las Vegas because Skywest is locally owned and in corruption central Utah, local payola has the power. So now they claim people in Southern Utah don't go to Las Vegas and are overjoyed with Salt Lake only Delta connections only. So we now drive to Las Vegas and fly out of there to get cheaper flights that end up closer to where we actually need to go.

The better option appears to be to fly into Jackson Hole WY and rent a car... it's about a 2 hour drive, and the scenery would be a tad more interesting.... Either way, if I go, I'll end up paying significantly more than usual for this event, in terms of both actual travel costs as well as travel fatigue. Grrr.

By all means, go to Jackson Hole. "Gorgeous" doesn't begin to describe it. However, it might be more expensive to go in there than into Salt Lake.

Actually, it might be worth it to have a shorter drive, and my own car so that I can stop and stretch when the need arises. The thought of a four-hour bus trip from SLC makes my bones hurt just thinking about it. I can hardly get from here to St. Louis (also a four-hour drive) without at least two stops to stretch.

Hey, Allison,
I was thinking of flying into either Jackson Hole or Salt Lake City, and drive from there. Maybe we can coordinate it so that we arrive around the same time and rent a car together.
